After the battle ended at Civil War Days Saturday, we decided we would visit Lake County Greek Fest at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church.
As we drove by, though, the parking areas were full, and they were not letting in any more cars.
So we had appetizers instead.
Sunday we planned to get there early, 2 o’clock or so, and that worked very well. The food was fresh and good (Spanakopita!), but what I really wanted?
Saganaki!
And the weather was a complete change compared to last year, being sunny, warm and cloudless.
We walked around a bit, looking at wares (mostly jewelry) in vendor tents and taking the air. Then I noticed the welcome signs on the church door.
You couldn’t hold me back! A chance to shoot inside the church!
I saw this sign on the way out – doesn’t ban photography, so good!
We waited for Hellas 2000 to start playing live music and listened for a while. But you know? It might have been a little easier to get into if I knew the lyrics! It’s like those Greeks have a different word for everything!
As we were leaving, I had to, naturally, shoot the church in the lowering sunlight. I like the distinct lighting here – it seems to emphasize the shapes.
Nice, eh?
All in all, a pleasant way to spend an afternoon. Though, one of these times, I do want to see the traditional dancers that are supposed to perform.
